Pocket bikes are relatively easy to service and repair. In fact, with a little bit of mechanical ability, you should be able to do routine maintenance-change the plug, lube and tension the chain-all on your own. If you do run into mechanical trouble, we will be able to service your pocket bike for you.
Your new bike will last longer and perform better if you maintain it using the information below.
Maintenance is crucial to getting the most out of your bike or scooter. The following information is for all our fuel burning vehicles.
One more reminder that although these vehicles are used like toys, they can be dangerous if they are not respected.
A two stroke motor was chosen for it's power to weight ratio. These motors need to have oil (synthetic) mixed with the fuel prior to filling the tank. This is what lubricates the piston and bearings. You will receive a bottle and instructions on how to do this. The bottle has markings for the fuel and another where you will fill the oil up to. Mixing too little oil will result in the motor getting hot and maybe seizing. Mixing too much oil will give you poor performance and a fouled spark plug. FOLLOW THE MARKS ON THE BOTTLE.
The air filter removes particles of dirt from the air that goes into the motor. In time this process starts to block the air filter, resulting in poor performance. Periodic cleaning of this filter is recommended to protect your motor and to keep performance up. The cleaning interval depends on the amount of driving and conditions. The filter should be free of dirt and grease and appear clean. If the filter is dirty, it can be cleaned in a container with fuel. Allow the filter to dry and give it a light coat of oil before re-installing it.
The spark plug must be clean and must be replaced as soon as signs of wear start to show. The spark plug should be a light brown or golden colour. A white coloured electrode is a sign that the motor is running hot. This could be from too little oil in the mixture or the carburettor is too lean. A black electrode means the motor is running rich from oil or fuel, depending if the plug is whet or a dry carbon.
The chain should be checked for tightness and lubricated before every ride. A loose chain will make the bike jerk under acceleration and could fall of. A chain also wears a lot quicker when it's loose. A tight chain will be noisy and wear the output shaft and wheel bearings.
The tires on these vehicles are pneumatic (air filled). The pressure between the bikes and scooters vary. Please ensure to look on the side of the tire for the recommended pressure. A soft tire will make the bike unstable and it will feel sluggish.
The pocket bikes have cable actuated disk brakes. This style has proven reliable and effective. To change the tension (sensitivity) of the brakes, loosen the locking nut by the lever. Adjust the screw in or out accordingly. Tighten the lock nut once you are satisfied with the tension.
The carburettor has many adjustments on it and it is recommended that experienced people make these adjustments.
